I was recently invited to experience wine tasting in a very unique way. Getting around the vineyards and to the tasting room on the back of a horse carriage. What an awesome experience.
I was joined by other industry partners and we met at the Vrede en Lust restaurant where are carriages awaited us. The carriage can seat up to 10 guests with 2 drivers in the front seat. The beautiful white stallions, Richard and his friend, were gorgeous and very patient.
We piled on the back and set off, while our host popped a bottle of bubbly for us to sip while meandering leisurely through the vines.
It was a warm day and we could have done with a bit of shade but that is apparently coming soon.
The ride was calm and relaxing and is an excellent activity for families with smaller children. They will love the beautiful horses. We rode through the vineyards of Vrede en Lust and crossed over onto the Rupert and Rothschild property. There is an option to stop there for wine tasting and that is highly recommended. I did a food and wine pairing there some months ago and it was a stunning experience.
The ride is about an hour long and you have the most stunning views of the Simonsberg Mountains and surrounding areas. You will also get to see the Residence, the self-catering villa on the Vrede en Lust farm which is available to be hired as a whole unit. Surrounded by gorgeous gardens and vines, it is a lovely spot for a weekend.
Bookings are available 7 days a week. There are various options to choose from so get in touch and we will get you sorted!
If dads find this a little too tame, the company also offers quad bike rides. But that's for next time.
