Great Gardens

Relax and recharge in spectacular surroundings
Babylonstoren Garden

Stunning 3.5 hectare food garden
Babylonstoren is well known for its amazing fruit and vegetable garden.  It is surely one of the largest in the country. Set within 3,5 hectares (8 acres) of cultivated fruit and vegetables, the big garden at Babylonstoren is at the heart of the farm.

It was inspired by the historic Company’s Garden in Cape Town, which supplied sailing ships of the Dutch East India Company with fresh vegetables and fruit during the days when the Cape was a halfway station between Europe and Asia. But we also link back to the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon. Those were thought to have been created by Nebuchadnezzar in the sixth century BC, for his wife who longed for the mountains and valleys of her youth.

Art in the garden

Art in the garden
Take a guided tour of the gardens interspersed with strategically placed artworks at Leeu Estates, a five-star getaway ensconced in landscaped gardens, manicured vineyards and indigenous fynbos in the Franschhoek valley.

The informative tours provide an opportunity to connect with art and nature in serene and meditative spaces with exceptional views. Analjit Singh, the Leeu Collection’s founder, personally curated the collection at Leeu Estates, which features predominantly life-sized bronze sculptures by Angus Taylor, Deborah Bell, Dylan Lewis and Otto du Plessis, among other well-known mainly South African artists. Relax afterwards over a traditional afternoon tea or tea with scones and homemade jam. Bookings can be made for group sizes from two to 10 guests.
